Managing Cookies

Reading an article should not require a trail of advertising identifiers. The supplied publication uses no optional tracking.

Cookies and local storage are different

A cookie is a small value a website can ask a browser to store and return with relevant requests. Local storage also saves information in the browser, but it is not automatically attached to each page request. Both technologies can fall within rules on storing or accessing information on a device.

The supplied site code does not set analytics or advertising cookies. It uses local storage only when you choose to save a preference with the controls below. Fonts, scripts, styles and photographs are served as site files rather than loaded from third-party tracking widgets.

What a saved preference contains

Storage used by the preference controls
NameLocationPurposeDuration
spritzpuzzlewhistl-consentBrowser local storageStores “accepted” or “essential” to remember your selected preferenceUntil cleared or replaced; no automatic expiry

This value contains no name, email address or unique visitor identifier. The preference tool does not transmit it to us. Accepting does not install analytics, advertising or other optional services: none are currently provided. If optional services are introduced, their purposes and storage must be explained and any legally required consent obtained before activation.

Your browser preference

You can record a choice or remove the saved value. Either choice leaves the current publication available without optional tracking.

Drafts, clipboard and downloads

The contact tool does not store its form fields in cookies or local storage. A draft stays in the current page's memory while the page remains open. Copying writes to the clipboard when permitted; downloading creates a local text file. Those copies are controlled by your browser and device and are not removed by clearing the preference above.

Browser controls and external websites

You can inspect or delete site data in your browser's privacy settings. Blocking local storage may prevent a preference from being remembered, but the articles remain readable. Clearing this site's data does not clear records held by independent websites you visit through research links.

Server access logs are not cookies and are addressed in our privacy notice. For questions about storage or data handling, contact [email protected].
